The fine print

RULES

Read these before you stand on the start line. They keep you safe, keep the race fair, and keep us on the trails. No exceptions, no grey areas.

01Entry, Refunds & Transfers

Refund insurance

Any registration made before 30 November 2026 can add Refund Insurance for HK$200. It buys you a no-questions-asked refund of your registration fee (insurance fee excluded) if you request it on or before 31 December 2026. Refunds are processed and paid within one month of the request.

Transfers

Didn't buy the insurance? You can still hand your place to someone else. A name change costs HK$200 and is available any time up until 15 January 2027. All transfer requests must go through the official registration system and are confirmed by the race organisers.

Cancellation — "Act of God"

RaceBase reserves the right to cancel any event for circumstances beyond our control. These include, but are not limited to:

  • Extreme weather before or during the event — typhoons, severe storms, lightning
  • Fire danger or active fires near the course, including resulting poor air quality
  • Other extreme environmental or safety conditions threatening participants, volunteers or staff
  • Public health emergencies, including pandemics or similar outbreaks
  • Any unforeseen circumstance that makes the race impossible or unsafe to run
  • Permit cancellations resulting from the above or other external factors

In the event of a cancellation, no refunds are issued for race entries. If the race is cancelled after it has started, no partial or full refund is given — the costs of planning and delivering the event are spent upfront.

02The Essentials — Every Runner

Race number

Wear your official number clearly on the front of your body or hat, visible at all times. Unofficial runners are not permitted on the course.

Stay on the route

Stay on the marked trail at all times. Cutting switchbacks or taking off-trail shortcuts is prohibited.

Cut-offs are final

Cut-off times are non-negotiable and strictly enforced, without exception. Return to an aid station after its cut-off and your race is over.

Aid stations

Check in at every aid station and leave before the cut-off. Miss it and you're out.

No outside assistance

No aid from crew or spectators between designated crew-accessible aid stations. No muling — nobody carries supplies for you. No stashing supplies along the trail.

Littering

Littering of any kind is prohibited and threatens our right to use the course. Respect the trails and everyone's right to enjoy them.

Medical team

Medical staff can check any runner at any point and have the final say on whether you continue. Refuse to cooperate and you may be disqualified on the spot.

Official finisher

Complete the event within the time limit to be recognised as an official finisher.

Crew responsibility

You are accountable for your crew and pacers. They must follow all race rules — parking, aid and access included. Failure to comply may disqualify you.

03Did Not Finish (DNF)

Getting off the course

Any runner who DNFs at a checkpoint must leave the course by their own means. No transport is provided to runners who DNF from any checkpoint.

50/50 DNF rules

  • DNF the 50 Miles — you're a DNF for the 50/50. You may still run the 50 km, but you're not eligible for podium placement.
  • DNF during the 50 km (after finishing the 50 Miles) — you're marked a DNF for the 50/50.
  • DNS the 50 km — you're placed automatically in the 50 Mile results, but you're not eligible for podium awards in that category.

04Bag Drop

50 Miles drop bag

On the 50 Mile event only, you'll get a baggage tag for a drop bag that travels to CP4 at Fanling, then moves to the finish line.

Finish-line bag (all races)

Every runner receives a baggage label for a bag taken from the start line to the finish line of their race.

All bags must be collected from the finish line by the end of the race. Any bags left over will be disposed of.

05Pacers

Allowed

The 50 Miles

  • Bib required. Pacers are allowed on the 50 Mile event only, and must wear an official pacer bib. Buy it when you register.
  • Where & when. One pacer at a time, from the aid station at Fanling to the finish at Tai Po Tau Playground.
  • Pacer swaps. Change your pacer at Luk Keng or Bride's Pool.
  • Age. Pacers must be at least 18. Exceptions may be requested in advance by contacting the Race Director.
  • No muling. Pacers may not carry water, food, lights, shoes, clothing or other supplies for their runner, or give mechanical or physical assistance. Pacers may carry their own supplies and food.
  • Aid stations. Pacers enter and leave each aid station with their runner and identify themselves to staff. They may not arrive ahead of, or leave after, their runner to speed up refuelling. Pacers may accept aid and help fill bottles or replenish supplies.
  • Final 1 km. From the base of Cloudy Hill to the finish, more than one person (crew, pacer, friends, family) may run with you — no aid or muling.
  • Bib worn at all times. The pacer bib corresponds to the runner they support.
  • No finish swag. Pacers do not receive finish-line swag.
  • Disqualification. Crew and pacers must follow all race rules or their runner is disqualified.
Not allowed

The 50 km & 25 km

  • No pacers on the 50 km or 25 km events.
