If you are coming from cooler European countries I would spend some time in a sauna or steam room to help prepare for the possibility of a hot day! Do lots of repetitive sessions involving stairs to get these muscle groups ready. Practice your descending skills on stairs!

Start slow and run your own race as the locals are well adapted to the weather in HK. For the 50km, you want to have good legs left for the more runnable section after Needle hill. This will require good pacing from the start as you will have done a lot of climbing in the first 30km. Some of these climbs are very exposed especially up Grassy and Needle hill and if the sun is out you can really suffer if you don’t get your pacing right.
